A Poster Exhibition Reflecting Design’s Changing Landscape in the Perth Campus Library

New Rules & New Voices

A new Graphic Design student poster exhibition has been installed in the Perth Campus library, inspired by New Rules: Navigating Design’s Unfixed Future — a global report by WePresent and It’s Nice That that explores how graphic designers can adapt to a rapidly changing industry. With job roles shifting and AI transforming the creative landscape, the report encourages designers to stay curious, be bold, and rethink what “good design” really means.

From Saskatchewan to Queensland and all the way to Western Australia, this exhibition showcases work by emerging Worldskills Graphic Designers and students from Saskatchewan Polytechnic’s Graphic Communications program. Each poster reflects the student’s personal response to the challenges and opportunities raised in the New Rules report.

The result is a collection that balances technical skills, like colour management and print production, with bold experimentation across branding, packaging, and editorial design.

This poster exhibition responds directly to New Rules: Navigating Design’s Unfixed Future, a report by WePresent and It’s Nice That that explores how graphic designers can stay relevant in a rapidly changing industry.

With AI, shifting job roles, and evolving creative expectations, the report urges designers to embrace adaptability, curiosity, and a redefinition of what “good design” can look like.

It highlights three key areas—trends, research, and new roles—inviting creatives to question the status quo and imagine new ways forward.

This international student exhibition brings together a dynamic group of emerging graphic designers from across the globe, each offering a fresh take on the future of design.

From Shenzhen Institute of Technology in China, Ting Feng contributes her vision alongside Sem Makata from ROC van Twente in the Netherlands. Representing Singapore, Athena Tong and Seng Le Ting from Nanyang Polytechnic showcase the innovative spirit of Southeast Asia. Closer to home, Australia is proudly represented by Seren Johnston (NMTAFE WA), Carla Wehbee (TAFE NSW), Zack Corless (Wodonga TAFE), and South Australians Austin Riddell and Emilie Flavel (TAFE SA).

The heart of this exhibition lies in the powerful showing from Saskatchewan Polytechnic, Canada, with over twenty students contributing bold, considered, and diverse works. From Trinity Theoret and Sam Reimer to Avery Wagner, Jesalyn De Vera, and Kaden Schmidt, this cohort reflects the depth of design thinking and technical training happening in Canada’s prairies.

Each of these students—whether from North America, Europe, Asia, or Australia—has responded to the New Rules report with a personal and local lens, creating a global conversation about what’s next in design.

On show for a limited time in the Perth Campus library.
