The 2026 Western Australia Wayzgoose last weekend brought together practitioners, educators, and enthusiasts from across the community. This year’s gathering highlighted both the depth of local talent and the enduring relevance of traditional print practices within a contemporary context.
A series of thoughtful presentations from invited speakers — Bill Currie (ex- West Australian Newspapers), Beth George (BG/UWA ), Chris Arnold (NMTAFE), Clint Harvey (Moveable Type Studio), and Dzintra Menesis (via video) — provided insight into individual creative journeys, technical approaches, and the evolving role of letterpress in modern practice.
The highlight this year however, a fantastic set of three workshops combined into a single, screen-printed, bound, overprinted, take home note book (well done Vanessa Wallace, Phil Brook, and James Bryans for joining forces); insanely beautiful Souvenir Specimen (duotone Chromic) from the Perth Letterpress Workshop collection (Modish Sans — thanks TypeHigh) and the legendary Phil Gambrill back on the Farley keeping things traditional.
This really is a fantastic event on the Perth Printmaking Calendar. A huge thanks to Ann Ong and Bright Press, who continues to play a significant role in fostering connection, supporting practitioners, and sustaining the visibility of letterpress across WA.
