The Graphic Music Project

Well, I’ve gotta say I was extremely impressed with everyone who presented on Thursday to the Music/Business students from Leederville.

The first ‘live’ brief of it’s kind, Adv. Dip Graphic students were teamed up with Music/Business students to supply all their branding, stationery, poster and CD cover art creative needs. Thursday’s presentations focused on the process, refinement and inspiration used for a diverse range of music needs, genre’s and attitudes. But, a terms worth of work is best summed up by the presentation’s themselves and a few pics of the crew. (BH)

And recently in a press release, which speaks for itself:

In semester 1 of 2009, the Music Business Diploma students were given
an external industry-based project to run their own small business
operation in either artist management, event bookings or record label
management. One area where the students needed to develop their business
was in promotion and marketing. Enter the Graphic Design Advanced
Diploma students.

Their lecturer Brendan Hibbert got together with Music
Business lecturer Scott Adam to create an industry simulated training
experience. Graphic Design students were paired up with music business
students to create CD covers, posters, letterheads and business cards,
and the results speak for themselves. Scott Adam said that the whole
experience was very beneficial to all the students because it was
similar to how they would operate in industry.

“Music business students create a brief and the graphic design students pitch and refine their
ideas”, Scott said. “Everone needs to act in a professional manner and
develop a good working relationship. Hopefully these connections
continue beyond TAFE so that some keep working together into the future.
The music business heavily relies on graphic designers to make a visual
impact whether it be a magazine ad, a website or a whole image
campaign”.
Brendan and Scott agreed that the program was a success and they will
be doing it again in the future.
